What is the Accident, Sickness & Hospitalisation Plan?
What would happen to you and your family if you fell ill or had to leave work due to an accident or sickness? Where will the money come from? Who will pay for the mortgage and everyday household bills?
The Hive Accident, Sickness & Hospitalisation Plan provides you with the peace of mind that if you are unable to work due to an accident or sickness, you will still receive a regular monthly income.
This can help provide for your family’s needs - from the simple things in life such as keeping a roof over your heads and food on the table, to ensuring your household bills are up to date, as well as all those expenses you incur every day.

Paying you an income if you can't work
Accident and sickness benefit
Cash benefits between €300 and €3,000 monthly
If you are off work due to accident or sickness, the policy will pay you 1/30th of your monthly benefit for each continuous day you are off work – once your deferred period has elapsed. You will receive this benefit for your chosen benefit period, or until you return to work – whichever occurs first.
The maximum monthly benefit is 60% of your gross monthly income if you are employed, or 60% of your taxable monthly income if you are self-employed.
We can also cover non-working partners for up to €350 a month. Please read the Policy Document for full details on their benefit entitlement and eligibility.
Cash benefits between €30 and €300 daily
If you or an insured member of your family are hospitalised for more than 48 hours, the policy will pay you 10% of your monthly benefit for each subsequent 24 hours that you remain in hospital. This is payable for up to 30 days per insured person per policy year.
In addition, you will still receive your monthly benefit.
Deferred Period options
The deferred period is the period of time you must wait before any monthly benefit becomes payable. The following are available: 14 days, 30 days, 13 weeks and 26 weeks.

The policy can pay you the monthly benefit for a maximum of 12 or 24 months.

Coronavirus / COVID-19 update
How does this policy cover me if I contract the virus?
Dear policyholder, we’ve highlighted the benefits of the policy that relate to COVID-19. Please read the information below and if you have any questions, do contact our Customer Services team on email@example.com. We’ll be delighted to help you in these challenging times.
If you are off sick as a result of COVID-19 and meet the definition of Sickness after the normal deferred period, you will be able to submit a claim. There are no exclusion clauses in the Terms and Conditions on this plan in relation to the COVID-19 virus. Periods of self-isolation do not count as part of the deferred/waiting period. However, if you, the policyholder, are in self-isolation and are diagnosed with COVID-19, the waiting period will likely commence from that date should you become unable to work for longer than the deferred period. Please also note that the cover benefit is a replacement of some income due to inability medically to work; it does not cover unemployment or redundancy.
HOSPITAL CASH BENEFIT
If you are hospitalised as a consequence of COVID-19 you will be covered for Hospital Cash Benefit. If you are hospitalised for more than 48 hours, we will pay you a benefit of 10% of your chosen monthly benefit for each subsequent 24 hours thereafter that you remain in hospital for up to a maximum of 30 days per year. This will be determined by the plan terms and conditions. We will not pay for periods of self-isolation in hotels or other such establishments. We will consider a claim if a policyholder is isolated on medical grounds in a recognised hospital.
IMPORTANT - WAITING PERIODS FOR SICKNESS BENEFITS
As per the Terms and Conditions of the plan, please be aware that there is a 90-day waiting period for benefit claims due to sickness. This means that the policy must have been in force for a minimum of 90 days following the start date of the policy before sickness benefits can be claimed.

How do I make a claim?
Simply call our claims handler, Davies Ireland, on 01 623 8471 for a claim form and for information on your claim.
You can take out the Accident, Sickness & Hospitalisation Plan provided that:
- You are aged 18 years old or over and under 60
- You are resident in the Republic of Ireland
- You are actively working, self-employed or being employed for a minimum of 16 hours per week
The Accident, Sickness & Hospitalisation Plan will end on the earliest of the following:
- The date when you become 65 years of age, or the date you retire, whichever is the sooner;
- The date you fail to pay your premium when due;
- The date of your death
- The date the plan is cancelled or terminated.
